Dr. Sunir Garg received both his Bachelor of Science with Honors and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan where he was appointed Chief Resident. During his residency, Dr. Garg was voted Teacher of the Year and also received the LaBerge award for research excellence. He attended Wills Eye Hospital for his retina fellowship, and after being Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis he returned to Philadelphia to join Wills Eye Hospital.

Dr. Garg is board certified in Ophthalmology and is Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Garg is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is an active member of the Retina Society, the Macula Society, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Uveitis Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.  He is past president of the Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society.

Dr. Garg has been invited to speak both nationally and internationally. Dr. Garg serves as principal investigator on numerous major national and international clinical trials.  In addition to being the editor of one textbook and co-editor of two others, he has authored over 300 papers, articles, and book chapters, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for many prestigious journals. He is editor of ophthalmology for the Merck Manual, Retina Committee Chair for the American Academy of Ophthalmology ONE Network and is Editor-in-Chief for Retina Times, the official publication of the American Society of Retina Specialists.

He is actively involved in treating patients and conducting clinical trials for conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, complex retinal detachments, retinal vascular diseases, retinal degenerations, surgical diseases of the macula and retina, and ocular inflammation. Dr. Garg is listed among "The Best Ophthalmologists" in the United States and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and has been on Good Morning America.
